Turning call forwarding on, and off

Dial these from your business phone, replacing [number] with your TextBack number. Your setup link fills the number in for you. Each box below shows how to turn forwarding off too, which sends missed calls back to your own voicemail.

Verizon

  • Forward calls you don’t answer (and busy calls): *71[number]

Turn off: *73

Dial it from your Verizon phone. Do not use *72: it forwards every call, including ones you would have answered.

AT&T or Cricket

  • Calls you don’t answer: *61*[number]#
  • When you’re on another call (busy): *67*[number]#
  • Phone off or out of signal: *62*[number]#

Turn off: #61# · #67# · #62#

Dial all three, one at a time, and wait for the confirmation after each. If a code is refused, open Settings, then Phone, then Call Forwarding on your phone and set "When unanswered" to your TextBack number.

T-Mobile, Mint or Metro

  • Calls you don’t answer: **61*1[number]#
  • When you’re on another call (busy): **67*1[number]#
  • Phone off or out of signal: **62*1[number]#

Turn off: ##61# · ##67# · ##62# · ##004#

Dial all three, one at a time, and wait for the confirmation after each. To change how long your phone rings before forwarding (5 to 30 seconds), dial **61*1[number]**15# for 15 seconds.

On RingCentral, Ooma, Grasshopper or another business phone service there’s no code. Find “forward unanswered calls” in your provider’s app and enter your TextBack number. To turn it off, turn the same setting off.

Carriers that can’t do this

Visible: Visible’s forwarding only works when you are busy, or for every call. It can’t forward only the calls you don’t answer, so TextBack can’t catch missed calls on this line.

Google Fi: Google Fi can forward every call or ring other devices, but it can’t forward only the calls you don’t answer, so TextBack can’t catch missed calls on this line.

Boost Mobile: Boost only offers forwarding for every call, not just the ones you don’t answer, so TextBack can’t catch missed calls on this line.

Google Voice: Google Voice can’t forward only unanswered calls to another number, so TextBack can’t catch missed calls on this line.

On another carrier or a landline, open Settings, then Phone, then Call Forwarding and look for “When unanswered”, or ask your provider for “call forwarding when there is no answer”.

Text commands for owners

Reply to any alert text from TextBack with these commands, from the mobile number on your account:

For callers: stopping these texts

Callers get a text only if they press 1 on the recorded notice. Reply STOP to any TextBack message and TextBack will not text you again. Reply START to undo it, or HELP for help. Message and data rates may apply.

Common questions

Does my existing number change? No. You keep your business line and keep giving it out. We only catch the calls you don’t answer, and those go to TextBack instead of your voicemail. TextBack doesn’t record messages.

What happens if I reply STOP to a TextBack text? It depends who you are. If you are a business owner replying to an alert from TextBack, STOP turns off those alerts to you (reply START to turn them back on, and if an alert can’t be delivered we also email you). If you are a caller replying to a text about a call you made, STOP ends all TextBack texts to your number.

What if I answer? Nothing happens. Forwarding only fires when a call goes unanswered, busy, or your phone is off.

Why didn’t a caller get a text? A caller gets a text only if they press 1 after the recorded notice. We also skip callers with blocked caller ID, callers who replied STOP, your own cell number, and anyone we already texted in the last 24 hours. Your dashboard shows the reason for every call.

What happens at night? Callers who ring during your quiet hours and press 1 get their text when the window ends. You’re notified right away either way.
